Abstract
Objective : Changes due to aging in the elderly increase the risk of safety accidents, with more than 90 percent of safety accidents preventable. Education is essential to prevent safety accidents, but safety education for elderly is not enough. To that end, based on functional gaming, which has recently emerged as a future educational tool, we hopes to develop a mobile-learning safety education application for elderly.

Methods : This study was conducted from March to June 2019 to develop an application prototype for safety education for eldrly by collecting opinions from two occupational therapists with clinical experience of 5 years or more, one professor of occupational therapy and eight persons aged 65 or older.

Results : The application for safety education for the elderly will repeat the process of enhancing safety awareness and learning about areas that were not known while solving problems for five categories (home safety, transportation safety, emergency treatment safety, fire safety and fall safety) that are highly relevant to elderly and have high educational needs. Game mode consists of single mode and speed mode, and the problem is using pictures to improve the understanding of the elderly. The answers and explanations are provided whenever the problem is solved, enabling immediate feedback.

Conclusion : Through this study, a safety education application was developed that can be accessed with interest by the elderly and that can be immediately fed back. However, the application needs to include more diverse categories and details as an initial model and is thought to help foster a sense of safety for elderly if additional information is provided using audio-visual data. In addition, future research on effectiveness will have to be conducted on elderly.
